Good Points

An interesting and cosy looking pub, with good beer, wines and friendly staff.

Bad Points

I have dined there three times now, first time the chef walked out mid way through the evening, this resulted in atrocious delays for food orders, and very ordinary food. The second time was a sunday lunch, which was acceptable in terms of food quality and service. I ate there again this week, there were no specials available "due to illness", the standard pub food was appalling and the service very slow.

General Comments

The "specials" are far more interesting than the normal menu and show a good variety of food, but it seems that there is a constant problem with chefs and food preparation. My wife's salmon fishcake served to her this week was "deep fried" with a solid poached egg on the top, it resembled eating oil soaked blotting paper. The lamb dish was inedible, it looked like it had just been put into a microwave before serving, there had been no attempt to grill it, and it was completely flavourless.
My own herb crusted salmon again appeared to have been micro-waved, no attempt had been made to make the "crust" crusty, it was soft and insipid, and was served on what appeared to be pure tomato ketchup!
It is such a shame, it is an ideal location for us to meet up with our daughter, it is a comfortable venue, with friendly staff, but it seems that there is no thought or effort put into the food side of the business. We shall certainly not be going back to the Spencer Arms.

This used to be a "high quality" brand with regards to food quality and service and I am shocked by the poor service experienced by fellow reviewers!!
