Consistent pellet quality, low defect percentage and tight groupings.
General Comments
Since owning my 1000fps air rifle, I've been experimenting with different types of ammo and their effect on small game. Most problematic is the fact that most pointed .177 cal ammo tends to over penetrate. Hollow points were increasingly inaccurate and I just couldn't seem to get a consistently good grouping. After trying about 9 different types of hunting and field pellets by different manufacturers I stumbled onto gamo match pellets.
In an effort to "slow" the round down, I began to use the Gamo Match Wadcutters and to my surprise, they were drastically more effective on the small game targets.
My one shot kill ratio sky rocketed!
I can only surmise that the ultra high velocity coupled with the flat nosed projectile acted like a shotgun slug. Not just penetrating, but knocking the target down end over end. Gamo must use a higher quality standard than other manufacturers and sells the pellets in a smaller amount. Thus reducing the amount of crushed and deformed pellets per tin.
Others might disagree, but I recommend Gamo Match pellets for Hunting applications as well as target only applications.
