Good Points
Hi, I bought my VW Golf 1.6 SE just before Christmas as it was absolutely immaculate for the amount I was paying for it - I'm really pleased with the body work, interior etc. it looks great.
Bad Points
Clutch!!
General Comments
I bought my Volkswagen Golf 1.6 SE in December because it was so immaculate, I fell in love with it straight away. However, two weeks into owning it, I couldn't get it into gear at all so I contacted the garage I purchased it from - which wasn't a VW Dealer and had their mechanic have a look at it for me, as I was still under parts and labour warranty. They informed me that apparently I had somehow kicked the clutch out of its column, how on earth I would of managed that I don't know! So, I accepted what they said. However, this morning, travelling to work In the snow(!) I noticed my clutch seemed to be getting lower and lower as I did a gear change, when I approached onto the motorway, having to accelerate, I couldn't get into 5th gear, I had to ram it in. I managed the motorway, but when I was getting off at my junction, having to slow down, I couldn't change gear, so I had to basically pull over quickly. Anyway, I rang the garage I bought it from and spoke to the mechanic that repaired my car last time, and he told me to pull my clutch and it will be fine!!! I pulled it, and it went back into normal position, but I still wasn't happy to drive it. I had my car recovered and taken back to the garage in which I purchased it from, and they got in contact with VW over it.
Apparently there is a common fault with the clutch, and that fault is the clutch master cylinder. So the garage kindly replaced the part for me, with no charge to myself as I was still under there parts and labour warranty - which I am relieved about... but now, after reading everyone else's problems, I'm worried the gear box will be next!!!
