General Comments

I own a Ford Mondeo and my ABS light had come on my dash - I took my car into another garage where they fitted a new sensor to my front wheel. All was OK for about 60 miles then the light came back on. I took the car back and was told it needed another sensor on my other front wheel. When I picked up my car I was told that the ABS module had actually gone at a cost of £500.29 - I had already paid out £211.23 for two new wheel sensors and could not afford anything else until I got paid two weeks later. I was telling my son in law about my problem and he recommended that I let Autocare have a look. My son in law rang them on my behalf and booked in my car. When I took my car in they rang me to say that my nearside wheel bearing was the problem - I thought what's a wheel bearing got to do with my ABS light, I inform them that I had had my car in somewhere else and was told that the fault was the ABS module. They replied rubbish and had the other garage fitted two new wheel sensors, when I replied yes they could not believe it. They went on to say OK I know your son in law, we will fit a new wheel bearing, you can take away your car without paying and if you are not happy you don't have to pay the bill. I let them do the wheel bearing as what had I to loose. After two weeks I went back to pay them and the problem was solved. What a great garage to deal with - I cannot praise them enough. I know where I am going in the future for my repairs.

I have just changed a front bearing in my 2001 Mondeo and yes the wheel bearing is an issue with the ABS, the MK3 bearing has a sensor on the outer ring that picks up the ABS sensor, so don't get ripped off by stupid mechanics that dont know what they are talking about and just buy parts you do dont need, fit the earlier model bearing and your abs light will come on for sure, fit the right one and no problems. The CORRECT sensor will have a warning telling you the correct way of fitting ie sensor pick up on the inboard side, good luck and stick to you guns.
