OK, they have good points. Their service is generally very good. I've always collected from the Portsmouth branch, as I'm close. Most of the things I've bought have been components, but a few years ago I bought a laptop from them, which has been a thorn in my side since.
See below...
I bought a laptop a few years ago, and it performed like a dog. It was a 2.66 ghz P4, and others I've used have performed well. I've since bought a Toshiba, which I like, so I decided to dismantle the Novatech one. On examining the components, it appears that the processors bus speed (533) is in excess of the capability of the RAM. I work in IT, and I was pretty sure that this would be the cause of the performance issues. I confirmed with our hardware expert, who agrees that it would have had a big effect. It seems they saved themselves some money by putting lesser spec RAM into the machine. I even returned it to them, and they couldn't see what was wrong with it. What was worse is the case was scratched to bits - which it wasn't when I left it there!
Always check the contents. Don't invalidate your warranty though! The best way is to use software to check what components are in a machine.
