Good Points

Very economical without even trying, it will get 5 people in it. Nippy round town and will cruise at 80mph


Bad Points

It is an old diesel no turbo so it does not fly!


General Comments

If your a student looking for a cheap car to run, then this is the one for you. Avoid the cheaper end of the spectrum. Ensure it has been regularly serviced every 6000 miles. Mine does not have power steering or electric windows, but this has never bothered me. I have had it near on 3 years and have done over 20,000 miles. It has covered 82,000 miles, and is 11 years old. It has never failed to start, even when the battery died I bumped it and away I went! Maintenance is about £300-400 a year (although mine is at the stage in life where the usable items are needing to be replaced, e.g new discs and pads all round, new cambelt, rad, battery, tyres, ball joints, water pump, exhaust downsection).
Parts are cheap and plentiful. I get 400+ miles on three quarters of a tank. I have used it for camping expeditions which required loading it to bursting point, no problems! Engine is bulletproof and fully expect mine to easily break the 200,000 mile mark!
