The top in sound quality
Not very portable
May be the start of an expensive obsession
There are a few things you really have to know before you buy these phones.
Firstly they are the best headphone that money can buy.
(Anyone wanting any better will have to be willing to part with upwards of £1,000, do some serious searching, and put up with having something that looks like an air conditioning unit on either side of their head)
However listening to MP3 players with these will bring you many problems.
Firstly the amp on the mp3 isn't good enough, so the player will be straining to power your phones.
MP3 quality just isn't good enough for these kinds of phones, every imperfection will be exposed and the music may sound flat and lifeless.
You should give your heaphones 80 or so hours to "burn in" and you will notice the improvement in sound quality as they get older.
After a few months of listening to these plugged directly into my MP3 I purchased a specialised portable headhpone amp (With crossfeed) from headroom.com and the sound quality is now amazing.
However for the best audio experience out there you will want to get a balanced amp, a balanced cable, and if you don't already have one a quality audio player. Which completely removes any notion of portability, and won't cost you less than £2,000. However the sound quality is phenominal, and when you take into consideration that equivalent loudspeakers could cost you upwards of £10,000 it's practically good value.
