Good Points

Well, eHarmony is a joke, but at least they do put some kind of scientific analysis and thinking into the whole online dating thing.

Bad Points

eHarmony sucks, but then again, so does the whole idea of online dating.

General Comments

I agree with another poster about this dating site. The number one thing I hate about this site is they pick the age range for you. I think this should be for me to decide. That aspect makes the whole site useless to me.

My situation is about the same as the previous poster's. I'm 36, but I am in great shape and most people guess me to be 27 or 28. I agree with him, and have had the same experience -- the women they throw at you all look old and fat. Sorry if that's shallow, but I take care of myself and therefore am not interested in women that let themselves go.

And before you write me off as some shallow, heartless guy... let me state that that is definitely not the main reason why I hate the pre-chosen age groups. What the other poster didn't mention is the dynamics involved with a single never married guy over 30.

Meeting a woman that's within my age range sounds like a great idea for a 36 year-old guy in theory. But you have to realize that, for one, there are few single women out there past the age of 25 years or so. If you do find a reasonably attractive single woman on eHarmony, it's a 99.9% percent chance she is divorced, has kids, or both.

I have never been married or engaged, and I do not have children, and I have no interest in dating a woman who does. eHarmony's choosing of what women I should date based on age makes the site completely worthless. It's a lot cheaper to join Hot or Not and find a slim, attractive 22 year old with no baggage.

The age group chosen is only the recommended age based on your profile. Under the settings feature of eHarmony.com they allow you to change the age range to anything you want but recommend you give a minimum of a six-year spread. So...if you are looking for someone a bit younger you might give that a shot - especially if you still have paid time left on your subscription. Good Luck! :-)

I found this review helpful because it gives me clear information on a significant issue with eHarmony. I suspect there may also be younger women who are looking for guys who look after themselves. Filtering entirely on age is far too restrictive.

And, I can see why a dating site based on 'science' might make that restriction. Statistically, I've had longer and happier relationships with women who are nearer my age than those who were younger and less secure. The problem with the statistics approach is that it debases human beings with all our uniqueness into some probability distribution in a computer. Not for me thanks!

You can indeed change the target age range, but they will literally only give you one or two matches outside their target, and usually because you are being used to fill out matches for people they are having difficulty matching because of geography.

You are only allowed to view the limited number of people they match you with, and then what they don't tell you is that anybody who is not currently paying them will not be allowed to read your communications.

If you try to make premature contact by sneaking anything with the letters .com into your profile or communications you get banned it seems.
