Good Points

When it works it has a lot of nice features:
* Fine-tunable sensitivity
* Talk-back function (intercom like)
* Bad connection/low power warning

Bad Points

* Receiver unit may suddenly power off without notice, leaving you convinced that everything is OK
* Discharging batteries when on net cable (becomes pretty expensive)
* Impossible to change batteries using your bare hands
* When changing from net cable to batteries the monitor does not work (does not respond at all)
* Inappropriate button placement: when transporting the monitor in a bag or the like, it always turns on the light and uses the batteries
* Only receiver unit is rechargeable, which is (for our usage at least) most likely to be near a power outlet (in the house/apartment). The sender on the other hand, which is often placed somewhere near the pram - e.g. outside in a yard with no outlet nearby - is not rechargeable
* When you turn the receiver unit off, it gives two loud warning beeps (which may wake the baby). Although this seem a security feature, it should be possible to turn off. In fact, it's impossible to turn the system off silently (that may get on to your nerves)
* Inconsistent design, having two different kinds of power buttons on the receiver and sender unit

General Comments

For a baby alarm at the price level of the Philips SC477 Digital Baby Monitor, I think you would expect rock solid technical performance and top notch usability. But a number of details like the ones above - one more crucial than the other - tell a different story.

Maybe some of the flaws - as I would call them - stem from one or more specific errors in the units we have. I can't tell, but the set is only seven months old, and it should be working perfectly.
Actually, I would prefer much less features to get a stable system you can trust.
