A good value starter kit when bought second hand that it's still possible to get a nice sound out of and use for practicing and gigging.
Not worth buying new, if you can afford to, just buy a better kit second hand and re-skin it.
As far as starter drum kits go the Premier Artist Birch does a fine job, it's quite versatile, can sound very nice when tuned well and is very easy to play. I'm left handed and right footed and still can't figure out which kit set up is best so i have a Premier Genista set up left handed and a Premier Artist Birch set up right handed. It works out quite nicely for having jams with my friends because they're mostly right handed so can play the Artist Birch whilst i use the Genista. I have a terrible ear while i'm playing so i'm never quite sure what it sounds like so listening to them play i've gained quite a fondness for the Artist Birch, especially for the bass drum. Recommended.
