Average 50 MPG on a run at steady motorway speeds which my 307 SW does with comfort and ease. I find the 1.6 diesel is well on top of the job. It's a good looking, well equipped car - the glass roof makes the car seem nice and airy and there is generally good all round vision. The audio equipment also does its part in making the overall drive reasonably stress free.
I am told by the dealer that the 1.6 HDI engine is fitted with a self cleaning filter hence the reason the engine fan seems to be on more than it's off when the car is parked up after a journey no matter how long or short. When I park up on my drive it sounds like a Harrier jump jet landing and the fan continues to run for a good 5 minutes after I've left the car. I do feel that I am being fobbed off by the dealer. During these times the engine is jerky at low speeds and runs like I'm pulling a caravan. Often people say that their cars have good and bad days running wise. My 307 is one of these, a real Jekyll and Hyde, just when I decide I've had enough and its got to go it purrs for a while!!! A real pity because this one major problem quite frankly has out weighed all the good points. It would be really interesting to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience
I've done 32K in my Peugeot 307 over the last 2 years, mainly up and down the m/ways - being quite a big and tall person I like to have a decent sized car about me that although not being a sports car does not hang about when it is required to go. The 307 SW fits the bill. I often drive 2 or 3 hundred miles in one journey and like to arrive not feeling like I have been through the mincer - again it fits the bill. My 307 is without doubt a distance motorway car and is at its best on long high speed runs. It tends to be a bit cumbersome in the urban situation, made worse by the bad point outlined above. I would have reservations about recommending the car because of the above comments, a pity because it looks the part and when in 'Hyde' mode is the part.
