Good Points

Very quiet
Good spin speed, with variable spin speeds if required.
Excellent wash.
Easy to use.
Timer function if required.
Nice looking.
Time wash will take plus count down on remaining time during wash.
AAA rated for water consumption, power consumption and final wash results.

Bad Points

Bleeps about 1/2 dozen times at end of a programme, which some people (not me) might find annoying.

General Comments

Purchased 21.12.06. I have had the LG WM16336FD washing machine for 2 days now, and I have done 5 loads of washing due to my previous washing machine breaking down, hence the basket was filled sky high. We are a 5 person family, therefore I was looking for something that could take the mountains of washing we produce. What with two budding David Beckhams within the family, you can imagine that I need a good washing machine.

Firstly, I purchased the silver colour model, as it was in the sale at Curry's - £200 off normal price. The colour doesn't make it look out of place at all in the utility room, and why pay £200 extra for a white coloured one? The 7.5kg capacity drum is marvellous, with its 180 degree opening door, making loading and unloading a lot easier. There is lots of space, and it is ideal for the larger family. It can take double-size duvets no problem. It is also economically highly rated as being most efficient, with it's AAA rate. It has a Digital display, which I was a bit sceptical about, but it's great. It has variable spin speeds up to 1600, which is fantastic, and it cuts down on drying time - the washing actual came out feeling quite dry, great! It has the normal functional programmes you would expect, plus it has an anti-crease option, which at the end of the wash, the drum continues to turn intermittently from settling into folds and creases. The drum can be accessed any time during this program. Spin stability and variable temperature with 9 programs. It has a delay timer which you can set to come on during the night if you wish. What I also like about this machine apart from the excellent wash you get, is that it actually tells you how long the wash will take, and also the precise time the wash programme will finish. The variable spin speeds is ideal, particularly if you have a wash with delicates. It has the normal variable temperature. It has a wash performance of 'A'. 'A' is the highest award, which gives the best wash results and proves to be the most efficient at removing stubborn stains. It has a low water consumption rating. Its wool program which is used for silks as well, is said to be even gentler and more effective at protecting your clothes than washing by hand.

The instructions are easy to follow, and I like the way that it accesses your load before beginning the cycle. I think this might be to work out how much water to fill into the drum? All the washes have come out brilliant. The whites are very white, and colours are stain free. I have started to use Calgon, as I live in a very hard-water area, but by using that I feel that I am not only protecting the appliance, but I am also told on the Calgon packet, that I don't need to use so much detergent, hence it shouldn't cost you more.

Also, what I've noticed apart from the good washes, having washing that actually smells like it's just been washed and almost dry from the fast spin-speed, is its quietness. What a quiet machine!! The noise which could be annoying to some is the bleeps upon the end of the programme, but I find it handy, and we are only talking about dozen bleeps. It has a 12 months manufacturers guarantee, but because of the amount of washing I have, I've taken out the extra cover for labour and parts, and the machine is now covered for a total of 5 years. This cost was an extra £135 rather than £155, as the man in the shop said this is what he quoted on the shop floor, and he would honour the quote. Currys were doing a 9 month interest free offer, but be warned; if you do not pay the full amount due before the 9 months it would cost you an arm and a leg in interest. The machine alone would probably end up costing you an approximately £940! So put big black letters in your diary a month before the last payment is due.

Marks out of 10:- Multiple spin speeds 10/10. Wash 10/10. Noise 10/10. Programme choice 9/10 (would like a spin only option rather than rinse and spin). Ease of use 10/10. Overall rating 10/10.

Yes, you might think why is she reviewing this appliance so soon, and after only 5 loads of washing (all of which were in different programme modes). It's because I normally make up my mind about whether I will like something or not pretty much straight away. I am very pleased with this washing machine, and I have had different makes over the years. I was considering a Miele, but they were too much of a cash layout straight after Christmas. LG looked good, and I think it was a very wise choice. I was looking at a Bosch model, but I think if this machine continues washing the way it does and is reliable, I'm a LG fan for life!

By the way, Currys charged just under £25 to deliver, connect, check it was running well and for the disposal of the old machine - good value.

Great review! My present washing machine is overdue for replacement and I was looking at an Electrolux. I will certainly look this one up next time I go to Currys. If you don't mind me asking, how much was it before Christmas? With any luck it may be cheaper now for the sales! I was looking to pay up to £300 or so.

Before Christmas and pre-sales it was £599.95, and in the sale it was £399.95 (£200 off), but this was for the silver version only, not the white.

I know that most people's budget is up to £300 for a washing machine, and normally I would, but I decided to pay an extra £100 for this washing machine, as there was a 9 months interest-free offer at Currys. Also, they had a model which showed how the drum differs from that of normal washing machines, therefore less likely to have problems. If I couldn't stretch any further then I would probably look at Bosch washing machines. No way could I possibly have afforded this LG washing machine unless it had the offer of £200 off - I've got a bargain!

Thanks Paradise. I will look out for this one, and hopefully get it at a bargain price too!

You can do a spin only rather than spin and rinse. Turn on and press the spin speed button to what speed you want and press start! As long as you haven't touched the program selection it will just spin at what ever speed you like.

Thank you for the 'spin only' info. A great help.
