Staff overall were pleasant. It's not their fault that the company consumer service policies are appalling.
Having purchased my dress 12 months in advance of the big day, we had to take the dress home to store. Advised to return to the shop nearer to the date for final alterations. On collecting the dress we were advised that the shop had had the dress cleaned. They never asked for our permission to have our property cleaned. On trying the dress at home with its train, the dress was now a different colour to the train. We rang shop, and we were asked to return the dress and train. Again, transporting a wedding dress is not easy, and the shop does not have its own car park. Staff at the shop agreed the dress and train no longer matched, and that the manageress would ring me the next day. The manageress denied the dress had been cleaned, but could offer no alternative explanation as to why the dress and train no longer matched. They said they would try to sort out an alternative train. We returned to the shop again 2 days later. The alternative train still did not match the dress, but they managed to find another train in the back that was a nearer match, and it to had to be cleaned, as there were Biro marks on it! We rang head office to complain that our dress had been "damaged" as it had changed colour, and of course the quality of the fabric after being cleaned is not the same as a brand new garment. This was 1 full week wasted. It was now 2 weeks to the big day. On complaining we were told to put the complaint in writing and it would be dealt with. We emailed the complaint and received their one and only offer of my daughter choosing a different dress from the shop. As this was totally unacceptable, as this was the dress chosen over 12 months previously, there was no way my daughter or any bride would want to pick an alternative now, 10 days before the wedding. The shop also refused to release the dress unless we returned the original train. As this was our evidence that the shop had cleaned the garment, we refused to return it. My husband and I went to collect the dress 9 days before the wedding and we were still being refused action. Phone calls up to director level ensued via the staff, for us to have permission to take our own property that had been damaged in their care, off their premises! And not a penny was offered in recompense for all the stress and the fact that my daughter was going to wear a garment that was no longer brand new, but had been cleaned without our permission.
The Bride Be Lovely store in Manchester has a good range of dresses on offer. The general shop environment is a little shabby and could do with an update. Staff are quite pleasant. Getting no satisfaction from our complaint shows the general attitude of the company rather than the staff in the shop.
