UsmanKhan's Review of Casino Royale
27th Dec 2006
Overall Rating
- Where Did You See It?Cinema
- Starring Actor/ActressDaniel Craig , Eva Green & Judi Dench
Daniel Craig silences all criticisms with his sleek cool performance as Bond.
Eva Green suits well to play the sexy bond girl.
Opening scene of the film is spectacular.
Bad Points
More Gadgets. The car chase, if you can call it that, lasted only couple of seconds.
Bond villain is more or less a wimp.
General Comments
Daniel Craig puts up a cool performance to silence the critics over his selection as 007.
Casino Royale takes the story of super spy James Bond back to his roots and promotion to 00. It tells the story of a filthy rich dealer, playing and hoping to win money to help pay for terrorists. How? Through one of Bond's specialities - Poker.
A large proportion of the film takes place in Serbia & Montenegro, known for its beautiful scenery. Bond, alongside the gorgeous Vesper Lynd, played by Eva Green, travel here to the famous 'Casino Royale'.
The opening scene is breathtaking. The blood and iris shot which occurs right at the beginning of Bond films has been given a futuristic update. But the opening chase is really something that gets you in to the mood of the film.
Bond chases a bomb maker up 100 a foot construction site, fights him whilst balancing off a crane, and still chases him through town. The opening scene is by far one of the best scenes in the James Bond franchise.
The climax of the film was filmed in the beautiful water city of Venice.
There is also a spectacular scene when Bond chases another bomb maker through Miami Airport, with a Boeing 747 flying right towards him!
Daniel Craig has produced a cool, sleek performance as Bond.
In comparison to Pierce Brosnan, he depicts a much more violent character, but he still has that same charm of 007 that Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery successfully did.
Eva Green also performs well as the new Bond Girl, and Judi Dench maintains her role as M.
Overall, Casino Royale is a cool film. However, the next film I believe should have made improvements on this.

Great review UsmanKhan. I didn't get to see Casino Royale at the Cinema, so I will now wait for it to come out on DVD. I doubt the effects will look as good, but hey, at least I can put my feet up in a comfy chair!
