Good Points

First they eat way less energy than cheaper ones, because sound much louder. It's in part because of neodymium and in part of snug fit, that helps them perform better, and also cancels noise a bit. Also they have rubber cord which doesn't slip down so easily between clothing layers (very usefull because I keep my mp3 player in front jeans pocket). Not to mention real bass, clear medium range and no overweight highs (as common in cheap stuff).

Bad Points

None related to sound, some about material side. Rubber cord breaks more easily than plastic, and I noticed some cracks after heavy 10 month use. (I kept them rolled in pocket when not in use, so that's not an common issue really). None of my female friends ever succeeded to properly put them on, maybe because of smaller ears. I think these headphones are standartized for male ears :)

General Comments

I bought them in 2006 Feb., and since then used them twice a day in transport and all the time with my laptop at home. Now they're damaged and I'll by new ones soon. So I gave:
* 10 for sound quality, because I've tried much but never found better sound. I recently had a chance for headphones from Philips Gogear SA179. In this case sound quality switch from sony to philips was like from Mercedes to Fiat.
* 9 for comfort level, because rubber cord works like stethoscope and if music is off, you can hear extra sounds. Of course, its ONLY when sound is off.
* 10 for value for money, because I bought them for around 30$, now in amazon they are for 19$!!! Incredibly cheap for sony+neodymium.
* Overall 9 because still I believe there is Lamborghini or at least Ariel Atom, which will definitely put my Mercedes in place. Still, Sony MDR-ED21LP is the best if you have mid-sized ear and spare 20$.
