Good Points

cheap and has decent print quality for a budget printer

Bad Points

proprietory ink cartridge system

General Comments

print quality for the Epson C42 Plus is on a par with other home/office inkjets. nothing spectacular by today's standards but something you'd have paid £100's for only a few years back. available for around £60-70 now, so you can't complain.

my one major gripe with epson's new printers is their 'intellichip' cartridges. there is a chip embedded in the cartridge which supposedly monitors ink levels. in actuality, this chip is not electrically connected to the cartridge in any way. it simply receives info from the computer which tells it when it thinks the cartridge is empty. the cartridge may still have ink left but once the computer has told the chip the cartridge is empty, it's effectively 'dead'.

if you refill the cartridge, the chip still treats it as being empty. if you remove the chip, the printer will not recognise the cartridge. this setup, effectively forces you to keep buying expensive new epson cartridges, instead of being able to refill old ones, or use cheaper 3rd party equivalents.
