Audio Quality: Great sound production. It also has a feature that adds the frequency's that are normally lost through compression when converting audio from CD to MP3/WMA etc. During DVD playback the audio quality is better overall than with my current Panasonic 5.1 home theatre package - the home theatre package will now be used in my gaming room!
Video Quality: The system has a built-in DVD player that will pretty much play any DVD or video CD that is put in it. The video produced on screen is of the same quality as the leading stand alone DVD player.
Build Quality: The system body is sturdy and well made, apart from the multi jog wheel and the CD/DVD tray. Explained in bad points...
This system would benefit from accepting digital signals (especially optical in) from other devices, such as television set top boxes and games consoles. Also, more RCA connections for connection to older audio devices. The problem with the Multi Jog wheel and CD Tray is they feel a little flimsy; I feel I have to take a little more care than usual when using them.
Overall, the Technics SCDV290 mini system is a well made, high quality system, and great for those who just don't have the time, money or patience to build a component based system. This system is great value for money. Just be careful using that Jog Wheel!
