Good Points

The only thing I can say is they look good when you are parked up.

Bad Points

No traction

General Comments

When I first got my Mondeo it was fitted with Goodyear eagle NCT5 (awesome tyres). Unfortunately, with it being a company car I had to have Avon tyres fitted.

I have had to completely change my driving style, these tyres are awful road holders especially in the wet. If you have a choice, DO NOT BUY THESE TYRES. You have been warned!

i own a mondeo SI i have avon zv1 all round i found them extra grippy excellent in the wet and even with the traction control off the traction is superb i think you should check again the make and model of your tyres once more

  • Gleb on 4th Dec 2003

Steve, you've probably got wrong model name.
crazyivan tells the truth, this tire has excellent wet and dry grip on any kind of road.
I'm driving on ZV1 myself and collecting people's impressions about all the tires they use in Russia, so you can believe it.
Or maybe something wrong with your car.

I have ZV1\'s on an Audi and they are fantastic, all I can say is if you will put them on a boat, what do you expect???

I have these tyres on my Celica and they are very good in both the wet and dry. They are not too noisy either which is important as they are 215mm wide. You may have incorrect rated tyres on your car.

I've just had a set of these fitted to my Hyundai Coupe and, whilst they are really quiet and ok in the wet due to the directional tread pattern, they have made the car understeer quite badly, to the point that it feels like the back wheels are going to overtake the front if you push hard around a corner.
Rubbish? -No. Good? -No Satisfactory? -Mmmm.
Maybe I was spoilt by the Michelin Pilot Sport...

I have purchased these tyres expecting to get @ least 30,000 miles from them, they have only done 7,000 miles and they have had to be changed, this is due to low tread. If I knew then what I know now I would not have had this product fitted to my vehicle.

  • Gleb on 17th May 2004

Sandra, if you look at the date of my first message here you see the date. By that date I've had approx. 15,000 miles droven on them, and now its above 25,000 miles. There is still NO low tread.

  • Fullthrottle Rank: Lance Corporal on 19th May 2004

Just as an additional to this, it is worth noting that old tyres, with the tread pattern well worn, stick to the road in the dry better than any other tyres. I think I'm probably getting loads of tyre 'bend' from the new tread... I'll let you know when I've done more mileage.

  • spencemnl on 4th Jul 2004

these are the worst tires I have ever driven in the wet!!! I had a set on a 420gsi and have to say in the dry they are pretty good, but as soon as it gets damp they may as well be slicks :0(

  • nemesis9691 Rank: Lance Corporal on 12th Jul 2004

Funny that I find these tyres superb in the wet and dry, must be something to do with the handling of the different cars rather than the tyres themselves, Fine on the Audi must just be the boat like suspension on the grandad cars lol

I have Ford Mondeo. And not new Avon zv1 tyres. I live in Latvia so it's rainy all the time. So i want to say. I checked them on wet road with speed of 140 kmh. There was no problem at all, so i can't understand any comments about problems on wet road. Maybe problem is in size or in FWD/RWD ?

I've had some ZV1's on my Diesel Astra for the last year, they've done a little under 30,000 miles and I only now need to change them.

They have been fantasic in both dry and wet conditions and to be honest, I've never had a better tyre.

As soon as the tyre fitter is ready, I shall have a new set added this afternoon !

Have to agree with you on this one. I've had ZV1's fitted to 2 different cars and both times found them to be not-very-good-at-all. First set were fitted to front of my Cavalier SRi and second on a Mondeo 1.8. Don't know why I wasted my money - should have stuck with the Goodyear NCT5's or Michelin Energy's - much better.

I must be wrong perhaps its down to the driving styles, I am a professional driver trained in all manor of hazards and driving at high speed! I have always found Avon ZV1 tyres to be superb in all conditions...

  • alimorg on 1st Nov 2005

I have had no problems whatsoever with these tyres, wet and dry grip are both excellent.
By the way FullThrottle, you say you have them fitted to your Hyundai and they cause Understeer, however you then go on to describe the symptoms of oversteer.

Oversteer = rear overtaking front, if it happens 'quite badly' you will spin.

Understeer = pushing the front, if it happens 'quite badly' you will carry on in a straight line (probably through a hedge).

  • Fullthrottle Rank: Lance Corporal on 2nd Nov 2005

Yeah, I meant oversteer. TBH it was probably the fact they were new and I was used to worn tyres. The car also developed a mysterious wobble on the front wheels that I could never correct. It just didn't like the tyres, I think. Problem solved -Got rid of the car. Now ride a motorbike.

  • alimorg on 3rd Nov 2005

    "Now ride a motorbike"
    Good choice!
