Obviously it amazing having HD quality literally in the palm of your hand. Packed full of useful features, and with Canon's efficient menu system, they are easy to use too. Looks pretty sexy too.
No external Mic connection if you wanted to improve your sound quality, and no hotshoe fitting to add an external light, or Mic either. Battery life is not great, but there is a BP-315 which will give you about twice the battery life.
This Canon HV10 camera was recommended to me by a mate of mine who works in the film industry, and specializes in HD Digital movie cameras. He really knows his stuff and recommended it to me as early as August, when it was first announced, let alone released. I waited a little after it's release as the price was artificially high. I got it when it dropped to about £850, but it has now come down to around £750-£800 mark. A really great camera that will make capturing all those magical moments of our first child (due in March 07) all the more fun and easier to watch!!
