General Comments

I sent an online booking for an automatic car and waited several days for confirmation. I received car voucher by e-mail on the 30th of October. I arrived in Tenerife to be told by the car company Cicar, that no car was available and that Economy Car Hire should have sent an e-mail a week before, as they had been told no automatic was available. (We had checked our e-mail just before we left home and nothing had been received). We hired a manual car for a great deal more money than we could have done had we known that the automatic was not available. I phoned Economy on our return, to be told that we should have phoned from Tenerife airport and waited around while they found us a car - presumably manual, as they took so long to not get us an automatic! They will refund our money which they kept for 2 weeks, but no compensation for their mistake, and the fact that we could have hired a manual car at half the price if we had been given the information that no automatic was available. Their cancellation policy allows them to keep 50% of customers payment if cancellation is within 48 hours, but having kept our payment for 2 weeks there is no compensation for their inefficiency and our greater expense on manual car hire.
