Chance.'s Review of Donnay Driver (adult size) Driver

Good Points

1) It's cheap - I got mine along with a full set's worth of Donnay ProEvolutions, a bag and a putter for a hundred quid brand new - can't say fairer than that.
2) It's good to learn on - it's not so big that the head drags your swing out of shape and the weight is reassuring to a beginner, if not too preferable to the better player.
3) I hit mine 200-220 yards regularly before I moved to a TaylorMade XR-03. Yes, the TaylorMade was a bargain, yes it hits it twenty yards longer at least, but let's not forget the Donnay was 15 quid ( reduced to seven in my case ) and the TaylorMade was five hundred, reduced to two hundred - to put it in perspective I could have boght enough clubs to take a friend out with me and have fun for the cost of the TaylorMade *after* it was reduced. Before, I could have joined a course for a year, as well.
3) Looks good, easy to align and to be fair, the sound on impact is no worse than the callaway I tested before settling on my XR-03

Bad Points

1) someone knocked my bag over and it scratched the paint on the back of the head - no head cover with this driver, but for under twenty quid, I can't argue too much.

2) Make sure you get the black (reg/stiff) one, the silver/grey one is about as stiff as liquorice.

3) I didn't buy one years ago as my Donnays were a good introduction to a game I wanted to play for a long time, but thought I could never afford.

General Comments

Ok, so it's not the longest, or the stiffest driver out there, but it looks ok, I can hit it pretty far considering and it costs anywhere from ten to twenty pounds ( or one twentieth of an end-of-line wilson deep red 365 ). If you are considering taking up golf, I recommend the Doonay ProEvolutions as your first set - decent enough irons to learn on, the five and seven woods are blinders and the driver is not too shabby with a nice 12 degree loft to get the ball in the air. you'll get your fairway woods, irons, a bag and a putter for about 150 quid if you shop around in the sales and you won't spend an arm and a leg to get a set of clubs that will get you through your lessons, first games and maybe even grow on you enough to keep them until you can afford a set of Pings, etc - instead of paying five hundred for a mediocre set of Bay Hills, etc and be in the position where you could really do with better clubs, but can't justify dumping the ones you have as they cost so much. 10/10 as a beginner's driver/set of clubs in general.
