Although without power steering and with only a 1.1 petrol engine, the 206 managed to amaze me with its superb handling and amazing capability. even at long distances (for 1 or 2 people only though). The car turns amazingly and responds with respect. Comfort isn't one of the trick hats of this little baby, but for a compact, the front passenger and the driver get plenty of room, and the multiple adjustment possibilities (seats, steering column and rear view mirrors), as well as the high seating offers a superb view of the road, while still managing to create a cozy atmosphere inside the vehicle. Visibility is perfect to the front (for my height, which is about 1.75 metres), a little bit less to the back, but nothing to stress on. The consumption is my real comfort, because when I opened up my wallet once the trip was over I realised there was still money (I say this being used to large capacity petrol engines).
The 1.1 petrol lacks in response times and high speed, but otherwise proves to be extremely present, especially for urban usage. The Fifth gear in the gearbox is a little bit slow, but the other four make up for that with quick responses, considering the size of the engine (1.1). Some older models are known for their bad handling in bad weather, especially in turns, so I recommend the latter models, with modified suspension. Top speed should be somewhere around 150 (ish) (160? I reached 170 on a different, older 206 petrol, but I am not sure if that was a 1.1 or a higher capacity). 0 to 100 should take a little bit less than 20 seconds (well it's not a rocket), but more like 15 for me.
The 1.1 engine on the Peugeot 206 is great for a first or city car!!! Parking is a piece of cake, even without the power steering. It has lots of storage space, but very little equipment in this standard model. Electric front windows and a superb audio system (K7), rear fog light and that's about it :). Newer models offer a bit more (X-Line: Airbags, Power steering, Front Fog Lamps as standard, new dashboard design + aluminium inserts at console and doors). I recommend the 1.4 HDi diesel, as I expect it to be THE bomb (though I haven't tested it, and so many cars disappoint me, so don't take my word for it). If the mileage per gallon isn't important, opt for the 1.6 HDi which should be the right engine for the car.
