Heartbreak & Triumph: The Shawn Michaels Story Review

Good Points
Shawn structures his personal life well in just the right amount of detail. As he talks about his childhood as a shy kid going through school, to his humble beginnings as a young wrestler learning his craft to the arrogant, cocky yet cool persona he unashamedly displayed while out in front of the cameras. For the first time Shawn Michaels talks in-depth about his "Rockers Days", his relationship with Vince Mcmahon, "The Kliq", and "The Infamous Montreal Screwjob Incident"and of course his love for his family and his personal relationship with "The Lord" plus a whole lot more. A good read.

Bad Points
Personally, I think Shawn doesn't open up fully about his backstage antics. If anything, a lot of what is mentioned in Heartbreak and Triumph is put in a mild context (or sugar-coated rather). It was well-documented over the years that Shawn Michaels/Vince Mcmahon relationship was said to be a tempestrous one at best, but not much is thoroughly detailed of their mishaps and adventures, The Kliq is also mentioned in the book but again not enough (and as you're probably wondering, I'm not fully satisfied with a lot that is mentioned in the book. Well, quite simply put, most HBK fans who were there in Shawn's prime know that the HBK of 1997 was much a cocky, arrogant, son of a gun who told anybody and everybody point blank what he thought of them) in front of the camera was much the same behind it. That is why there is the belief that there was more to "Old HBK" then put into the biography.

General Comments
A wonderful book. Could've been longer and more detailed especially during Shawn's title runs amongst many other segments mentioned in the book. Other than that, it's a pleasant detailing of a man whose had many convictions in life and stood firm through it all to not only be considered as one of wrestling greats but a founder of redemption within himself to be not only a leader of his family,(but through his new found faith in The Lord) in life as well.
