General Comments

My friends and family used to get a kick out of how I'd grumble at this DVD player because it wouldn't eject the DVD disk reliably. Alternately, I would have to insert a disk a few times before it would recognize the disk had been inserted. I've had the silly thing for over two years now, and it has been been reliably unreliable.

While watching a movie (not a particular movie) the screen would go all "pixelated" and freeze. Sometimes, after doing this, it would jump back to somewhere near the beginning of the movie, forcing me to locate the scene in the movie where the malfunction occured. Usually, the second time through the problematic scene, the player wouldn't cause a problem at all. Cleaning the disk never seemed to cause or fix the problem.

Now, the final straw. I've started to collect a lot of digital images and wanted to share them with my family and friends using the DVD Player's ability to play Version 2.0 Video CD's. I've used Nero's Burning ROM to create the Video CD's, but to my chagrin the Sony DVD player refuses to recognize the disks. I'm convinced the VCDs are compatible with the DVD player. Nonetheless, the silly thing refuses to play them. I'm betting my parent's Magnavox DVD player ($69 USD) will play it back.
