The Piaggio X9 500 is comfortable to drive and the weather protection is good. Its performance is impressive when the bike is working and not at the dealers and the looks are good, as one would expect of an Italian machine.
However, there are too many bad points to list them all, so here are a few:
Instruments failed after 60 miles.
Radio has zero reception.
Hydraulic stand soon failed and has continued to do so.
Battery has failed at least four times.
Fuel gauge hopeless.
Silencer paintwork failed within first 1000 miles.
Computerised display prone to going haywire.
Piaggio does not reply to letters and shows no interest.
I have had only 5,000 miles out of this machine. It has been at a dealer for the last ten months trying to sort out faults and prior to this, was off-road for another year with another dealer, all to no avail. A specialist engineer found three basic production faults that Piaggio dealers were unable to detect.
The history of this machine is appalling!
