You can do as much or as little as you like.
Like The Sims, except less annoying and less glitches, and it runs!
So cute.
Will take over your life.
If you want to play DS-DS they need to have their own cartridge.
You have to have external visitors in order to get to the next levels.
I bought my Nintendo DS and was desperate for a game that wasn't platform or puzzle for me to enjoy. And so I bought Animal Crossing where I was invited into a wonderful world of mortgages, mail and fishing - sounds strange and boring - so isn't!
Now I'm an adult, female, Nintendo freak - not many of us about I shall say, but this game ticked all the boxes for me. I loved The Sims until they revamped it and made it so you couldn't run it on any PC over 6 months old. But AC:WW is just everything The Sims couldn't manage to be.
Basically, you are a little person with a name you choose, and you choose how you look based on questions asked of you by the cabby. You choose the name of your town and where abouts you live in the town, based on what sort of things you like (again answering the cabbie's questions). Then you are dropped into your little town and you basically make friends, pay off your house loan to make a new house, fish, catch bugs, discover visitors and write letters. There's so much more to the game than that. You get letters from your mum, gifts from the town's folk on your birthday, partake in competitions and run errands. You also have to collect the various fruits available. Your town comes with one random fruit and you have to either find, be sent or visit other towns and pick the 4 other fruit types. Then you plant them around and create your own little orchards.
Apart from this you have the option to visit DS player's towns or for them to visit you. Now this wasn't important to me until I found out that you have to have someone from another town visit yours and buy something in your local shop, in order for the shop to expand to the next level of shop. So I managed to force my husband to buy a new version of AC:WW in order for me to expand. I do have wi-fi but find it hard to be playing the game at the same time as others around the world, so I stick to DS-DS gaming, which is fun in itself. You have the option to send messages in bottles to other towns via this method, by writing the message and dropping it into the sea!
You control the game with the stylus on the touch screen, but you can use the buttons as well if you prefer, though it's not easy to use the keyboard with the buttons, as it takes a while to get to the correct letters. The game is in surround sound, and I recommend playing with the sound on (or at least headphones in) because you can hear all around you if something's going on (good for catching bugs behind you).
I have to say that I have been playing this game for 6 months and no other game has had me engrossed for this long. The game's in real time, so at the moment the leaves are just changing to browns and reds, and acorns are falling to the ground. The bugs and fish are also seasonal, and you must collect the full set around the 12 month period. I just can't wait for the Wii version, which promises to be even better!!
