General Comments

They may seem cheap on the website (booked through economycarhire.co.uk), but as soon as there is a problem they wanted more money and in cash only! Economy Car Hire have not even acknowledged my complaint!

My husband thought it was because he was getting used to the clutch, but as I drove out hire car out of the steep hotel underground car park there was obviously a problem. Had to rev the engine to get out of the car park, as there were cars behind, and then smoke poured in through the vents. A passer-by looked and said the oil filter had cracked. Although the car was still drivable, we called Crown Car Hire's roadside assistance, who towed the car away. We went to collect a new car, and we were told had to pay 300 Euros CASH because we had broken the handbrake. My husband asked where in the contract it said this, and the woman the in Roquetas office called Malaga and said either we paid 300 Euros or no new car. My husband insisted he spoke to the Malaga office and she made him call on our British mobile. The man in Malaga office was very unhelpful. He told my husband it was in the contract signed when the car was collected. My husband asked where and he told him to read the contract out loud. After reading most of the contract, my husband read out that if the clutch was broken due to misuse the insurance was invalid, and the man at the Malaga office said this was why we were being charged. My husband pointed out that the woman said it was the handbrake, but the man insisted it was the clutch. If it turned out not to be, he said we would get the CASH refunded - very likely scenario. Eventually we walked out and hired another car for a lot less then 300 Euros.
