Good Points

Salzburg in December is magical.

Bad Points

It does get busy. The markets are very popular with the locals and tourists alike. The earlier in December you can travel, the better, as hotels, etc., do get quite full.

General Comments

The city of Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart and the historic old town is home to some of the most beautiful architecture in Europe. The Salzburg Christmas Market is located in the main square in the old town and is full of stalls selling traditional hand made wooden toys, jewellery, trinkets, candles, etc.

The huge Christmas tree dominates the square and the sound of carols sung by candlelight floats across the market as you shop. We were very lucky having snow when we travelled there and it really helped put us in the Christmas spirit!

I would recommend Salzburg Christmas Market to anyone. It is a thoroughly beautiful city filled with culture and history. When you add the snow, Christmas shopping and wonderfully warming local food, it really is a treat. Make sure to shop around within the market for gifts, as prices and quality can vary.
