Excellent food, wide selection of wines and lack of constant music.
The menu is not always as inspiring as it can be.
If you find yourself anywhere near Newark in North Notts you must make time to visit the Caunton Beck, approx 8 miles NW of Newark.
This is a pub with an excellent and unpretentious restaurant attached. It is impossible to go in to 'The Beck', as it is familiarly known, for just a drink. The sight of well presented food constantly emerging from the kitchen and its olfactory effects will soon have you reaching for a menu.
A regular feature, which we are yet to try, is the gourmet evenings they hold alternately here and in their sister pub in Lincoln. These are usually themed and for a fixed price attendees are taken through a set menu with accompanying wines usually from a region that makes up the theme.
This is not the cheapest place to eat but it is one of the best.
