Price - £169.99 from Chain Reaction. I don't see how you can get better value for a new bike. The GT Aggressor looks good and rides well. Seems fairly light for the price. Front Shocks are not long travel (65mm I think) but smooth out tracks well enough. Basically, it gets you out there on a competent bike. Some bikes could put you off but this won't, it encourages you to get out on the green lanes and bridleways. If you don't like Mountain Biking then you didn't pay £2000 to find out. If you like it then you could upgrade some parts to make it more competent (see bad points).
1st Gear is Mega range so it will haul you up anything (many cheap bikes do not have true MTB gear range).
Tyres are OK for the road and dry stuff but the centre-ridge has you going sideways on mud. £20 would get you a pair of more suitable chunky 'Cross Country' tyres.
Pedals are plastic and get slippy in the mud. A budget Alloy Cage type would improve things.
I've seen some shockers in Halfords for £100 more than this cost. It's hard to complain about anything for the price. The frame seems pretty good and everything else is budget stuff and nothing too extravagant. This is the failing of many low-end bikes, they try to have everything, Full-Suspension, Disc brakes etc. This means that the parts can only be junk as well as the frame. GT have provided a decent frame that you could keep and add decent parts to when you needed/wanted.
Basically, GT are a proper MTB manufacturer, it cost £170 and it works as a proper off-roader (do not buy it if you intend to jump it off an NCP car park).
