General Comments

I bought my DAV-S300 early in 2001 and enjoyed probably a good 18 months of moderate enjoyment from it (approx 2-3 DVDs a week on average). Living in a small flat I don't need anything more powerful than the 30w provided and up untill that point I was a fairly happy consumer.
Then the dreaded C13:00 error started happening with every DVD new and old alike. Effectively the unit now does not work at all (conveniently out of warranty)unless I spend about 20-30 attempts to get it to go. Understandably I am pretty hacked off!!! Most annoying is that Sony does not want to own up to its responsibility (ie product recall!!)in all this and all I can say is be damned if I am going to spend money on getting it repaired after researching the problem. My pity to all the other DAV-S300 owners out there, mine will end up in the recycling bin - thanks Sony!

I bought a Sony DVP-S735D DVD player about 3 years ago (fairly top of range then) and had no problems until January this year when the playback started to stutter and stop. The dreaded C13:00 and "No Disc" then started to appear. The player did not have heavy use nor was it badly treated - anyway, I had it repaired (New laser unit) and it worked fine until today - same problem ! I don't see myself sending it for repair again and definitely will not buy a Sony unit again. Given the high price and supposed build quality of Sony, there is surely a question mark over Sony's attitude to its customers' complaints in not admitting that there is obviously a fault with a considerable number of its players and provide a fix or recall.
