General Comments

I am an Orange customer and happy with their service and then The Mobile Phone Company contacted me. This is what happened:
Received a call from someone implying that they were from Orange offering me a new deal - 18 month contract, 800 minutes, 500 texts for £17.50. I agreed to contract. Phone arrived a few days later. The phone was a Nokia 6233 (OK) but on a Three network. They were not an Orange dealer at all.

I sent the phone back straight away, but a day later bill arrived. Looking at the tariff details, this was an 18 month contract and cost was £20.50, not £17.50.

The 800 minutes offered to clinch the deal were only for first 6 months - then 400 minutes - this was not mentioned.

500 texts was actually correct!

£20.50 included half price line rental, so discount of £15 had been deducted - this was not mentioned either.

So, after signing for a 18 month contract at £20 for 800 mins and 500 texts with whom I thought Orange, turns out to be The Mobile Phone Company!

Forgot to mention that it was actually a Three contract and after 6 months I would only have 400 minutes and the bill would suddenly be £37.99. Niceeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Not pleased as you can imagine. This company is based in Blackpool. My advice is to avoid them. There are much better companies out there that are trustworthy.

Please note this review is about 'The Mobile Phone Co', and even though Orange is mentioned, they have done nothing wrong in this case!

I just had a call from "The Mobile Phone Company", too (16:00 10/07/2007) I was offered a 'Discount on my orange contract through their loyalty scheme' ('loyality' suggests to me that they were orange or acting on behalf of orange as it implies that I am already using their services). I stopped her spiel and asked her which company she was phoning from and it was only then that I twigged that 'the mobile phone company' should have been capitalised. When I said "So you're not from Orange then?" she jabbered something about how Orange don't have an outgoing call centre so Orange get them to phone on their behalf. Sounded dodgy to me and I terminated the call. Googled this review and now I feel relieved. Good work.

I have had about 7 or 8 calls from The Mobile Phone Company in the last 6 months. I was alerted to there being something strange, because they called me by my previous surname which changed 15 months ago. I just told them that they were obviously not calling on behalf of Orange or they would have my up-to-date information, and to take me off their calling list. When these calls kept coming I eventually emailed Orange Customer Services, who replied, advising that the calls were not from Orange, and they do not use or give customer numbers to outside agencies. I registered with the Telephone Preference Service (YES, you can register mobile numbers) in June, and the calls had stopped... until today! Today the man on the other end of the phone was insistent that they were legitimate.

Be wary, especially if you live in Scotland, as a verbal agreement to a contract is binding as far as I am aware.

Stick with your provider, or go to an independent which has shops, customer care and a good reputation!
