General Comments
The cutting drum on my Ryobi rsh-2455 shredder is lopsided. This means how ever it is adjusted it will only cut once per revolution of the cutter drum and will leave partial cuts/notches the rest of the time. The lengths spat out by the shredder are about 6 - 7 inches, which I guess must be the diameter of the cutter drum.
The machine works by having cutting blades mounted on the outside of a drum. These blades pass close to an adjustable plate. The branches are dragged down between the cutting blades and the adjustable plate. In theory the distance between the cutting blades and the plate is sufficiently small that each blade cuts the branch right through. On my machine the drum is lopsided by about 3 mm and so the closest I can bring the adjustable plate to the drum is such that they touch once per revolution. This means the clean cut only happens once per revolution. The rest of the time the blades merely notch the branches. Hence, I get 6 - 7 inch lengths spat out with notches.
In my opinion if the cutter drum were properly round, then the machine would work reasonably well. The problem appears to be one of shoddy manufacturing.
