Good Points

The beautiful surroundings and scenery! It was breathtaking the morning after, with the mists and light frost, and it made you feel like you had been catapulted back in time.

Bad Points

I wouldn't use the term "bad", rather "points that need improvement". As we were evening guests at the wedding, we found it hard to find the entrance gate in the dark, as it wasn't made obvious by a larger sign or lights, and we were quite alarmed at the lack of lighting up the main drive. So much so that we alerted a female friend who was travelling alone to the venue and waited to escort her to the car park. A member of staff very kindly permitted us to use the courtyard to park our car, as the small car park was full. This car park is mainly a clearing in the trees, and it consists of uneven ground and limited lighting.

General Comments

Due to the genuine authenticity of the building and surroundings, I appreciate that it is hard to alter too much of the surroundings due to it's grade 1 listed status. However, I feel that a simple face lift on the carpets and some of the wall coverings wouldn't go amiss, and some of the bathroom suites need a re-modernisation. Having a young family we were hardly flashing the cash around, and so we had a room to more suit our budget. However, it was still a pricey £70 that could have given us a little more luxury and a better heater than the little electric thing that stank when you switched it on. Having said this, we had a fabulous time at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, and after the party we enjoyed drinks in the cellar, which we were eventually kicked out of in the early hours, as we were having such a good time. The bride and groom had retired to their bed a considerable amount of time before this, naturally, as it was their wedding night!!

We had a delicious breakfast several hours after our expulsion from the cellar bar, and we were able to help ourselves to toast, tea and juice, and the cooked breakfast was brought to the table.

Overall, we had a lovely time and would come again. It would be lovely to see the castle in the snow or with a midsummers sunset as a dramatic backdrop.
