Seated promptly upon arrival at the time we booked. Allowed to choose our table as restaurant not too busy. Olives, bread & drinks arrived shortly after.
Bad Points
Starter did not arrive until over an hour later. No service or concern from staff up to that point. Poor & too late explanation of 'circumstances'. Another dozen people appeared similarly affected.
General Comments
As you can probably gather this was not a good evening for myself & my wife, in The Isola Bella Restaurant on Saturday 7th Oct'06. We did get our main meal, but other couples failed to get beyond the starter before throwing in the towel.
The excuse was that the restaurant was busy (isn't that good?), yet was only 50% full when we arrived. Also advised that the Chef was a little slow!
From speaking with friends, neighbours & work colleagues this does not appear to be an isolated occurrence. Once seated, the staff literally vanished. Only re-appearing when each party vented their frustration & requested the bill. At no point was any form of compensation offered as a good will gesture or apologies received upon leaving. If you multiply the number of dissatisfied customers by the number of people they will tell, then I don't see much of a future for Isola Bella. Needless to say we won't be back & also the rub off effect on Franco's as well, from where some of my fellow customers were pointed from.
