General Comments

I used the card to open a betting account with Blue Square. I was transferring £5 into my betting account and I did this three times. I was then charged 3x £3 cash transactions. I sent an email and they responded by apologising, saying it should have been a purchase transaction, and they would refund the money to my credit card account.

They were slow doing this, and I had to remind them twice over about 5 weeks.
Finally, they credited my account, but they made it very clear that as from now all deposits into any kind of gambling site, including even the National Lottery would be classed as a cash advance!
So if I bought a lottery ticket online for a pound using my Capital One Classic credit card it would cost £4!
You have been warned.

    Check your terms and conditions.
Unless Capital One specifically say a purchase used for gambling is charged a cash dispense fee, they cannot do it.

Any transaction that does not involve you physically taking cash from an ATM or via cashback at a shop till cannot be treated as a cash transaction, obviously depending on your T&C's.

If your T&C's do not say this, continue using your credit card for betting transactions. If they charge you again, and again say it has a cash fee, ask for it in writing. They can't change your T&C's verbally.

    Thank you for your reply.
However, they have updated their terms and conditions, and state following a review, certain transactions like balance transfers AND gambling, these are now cash transactions and will be charged accordingly, which does mean, as I stated before, if I buy a lottery ticket online to "help" good causes using my Capital One credit card, I will be charged a £3 cash handling fee!
Have you ever heard of a more ridiculous review?
I only hope future potential customers take this into consideration when choosing a credit card.
