To say this Hitachi VTFX440E video is rubbish is to flatter it. It seems to have no redeeming features. The VCR display shows the time if you switch on the TV to set it, but I recommend you buy a clock. Why doesn't the display show the tape counter or the channel or anything vaguely useful. I thought Hitachi was a decent brand but any manufacturer with self respect would not issue such a model. I could go on. If you can set it to the correct channel (TV screen) and then record, a mediocre picture is recorded. It claims to have six heads! Freeze frame is crud quality too. Avoid!
