Good Points

20 valves - 4 cylinder - fast - about 90 hp
Light and easy to drive. 500lbs
Shaft drive - smooth and low maintenance.
Very comfortable driver - passenger OK....older maxims had better seats for passenger. Fuel mpg up to 55 cruising on the back highways.
Very stylish for a non-custom bike. Liquid cooled.

Bad Points

Small gas tank lucky to get 125 to 150 miles per fill. You may get only up to 40 mpg if race around a lot. May be harder to find parts.

General Comments

The Yamaha FJ700X Maxim X is a comfortable cruiser with sport bike speed. Why these two ever parted ways is beyond me. This bike was at the pinnacle of the muscle bike era until the V-max took over. I never got a V-max because they were too ugly for me. I bought this one to replace my 1982 650 maxim.
