Fast/Great check in service.
Very hot hot inside the plane on the return flight.
Leg room is very cramped compared to Singapore or United.
Service not all that great.

09-01-2006. San Francisco (SFO) to Hong Kong. Flight took off at 1am, and I did not notice any major or minor problems. Slept through most of the way. Did not feel uncomfortable.
09-22-2006. Return trip from Hong Kong to San Francisco (SFO) - Check-in at Hong Kong Airport. Great check-in service. The 5 of us arrived at the airport around 2.5 hours early. Check in was fast and staff were courteous.
We went through the customs and immigration service, no problem. We had to take the airport subway to get to the gate. Once we walked toward the gate, there was a long line. I found out this line was to check our carry-on luggage for banned items (liquid stuff). Everyones bag was opened and checked for contraband. This took about 15 minutes in total.
Got on to the plane just on time. Here comes the nightmare!
1. From the start of the flight to the half way/mid way point, it was very hot inside the plane. I felt like I was in a sauna. It appeared there was no air conditioning; just air. On my flight, there were no manual controls for the air conditioning.
I saw others who were "fanning" away. I complained three times, and their standard response was, "I informed the Captain about this problem". I felt so uncomfortable for the first 6 hours. Halfway through, I felt just a bit better and the temperature got a bit cooler.
2. My girlfriend asked the stewardess for a utensil set for the in-flight meal. The meal did not come with any utensils. The stewardess said, "the utensils will arrive." Of course, the utensils never arrived. I gave my girlfriend my fork, and I had to use my spoon to eat.
3. No leg room. Worse than United or Singapore airlines.
I was lucky enough to get a survey to fill out, and I wrote a long and extensive review of the above problems.
I feel Cathay Pacific could do much better, and I hope the review serves to improve service for everyone.
