Good Points

Cheap to insure, good fuel consumption (about 45-48 mpg), uncomplicated and easy to maintain (DIY), not too heavy/light

Bad Points

Top end speed/performance down on other similar makes of same size/year.

General Comments

I got the Yamaha XJ600N bike as my first big bike after Direct Access Course, 15-20 since I last rode bikes regularly, and it's easy to maintain with a workshop manual and a shed.

I put BT45's and a fly screen on my xj600n too, the fly screen does deflect a fair amount of wind from the body at speeds over 70 (needed on the naked bikes). The BT45's are good in wet and a fair price for someone on a budget too.

It also weighs enough not to get blown about too much in strong gusting winds (Highlands and Islands area) but still nimble in town.

All in all a good steady first big bike/commuter and cheap to insure/run.
