Good Points

Very good player for the money.
Fine intonation.
Nice silver plating.
Protective nickel-plated slides.
Reliable monel valves and slides.
Free-blowing and responsive.

Bad Points

Very lightweight.
Core of sound not like that of a professional cornet.
Lack of available accessories, such as heavy valve caps.
Comes with an undesirable and impractical 7C cornet mouthpiece.

General Comments

I was looking for a quality cornet to play the traditional cornet music in a community (wind) band, and I found this quality in the Jupiter 520MS Bb cornet. I do not play professionally, but I take my music hobby very seriously, so I wanted a cornet of better-than-acceptable quality at a budget price. Note that a professional would probably want to spend the required $1300 more for a pro Schilke or Kanstul cornet.

The Jupiter cornet matches the intonation of a pro cornet, but it's light weight can be a drawback, in that is lacks the beautiful core sound of a pro cornet at greater than mezzo-forte dynamics.

However, I fully recommend this instrument for students and for the serious amateur who reads some occasional cornet parts.
