We choose Skegness because it was close to home due to our daughters disabilities. Also, we knew other surrounding areas, ie. Mablethorpe, Ingoldmells and Skegness itself.
Evening meals were not up to much considering how good breakfast was. Expensive if you need to eat anywhere else on-site. Did have to pay extra on some other facilities. ie. bouncy castle and crazy golf. Splash World at PM time was very dirty on the floor, but the swimming pool itself was good, with plenty of room for children to enjoy themselves. I expected the apartment to be cleaned, not just the bed made, and the floor was never hoovered in all the time we were there, but we found out you needed to ask for this to be done.
If you want a holiday where all the fun is included in the price then go to Disney Land. If you want a holiday that your children (not necessarily you) can enjoy, then go to Butlins. My daughter is only 20 months old, and although she could not use the rides, she thoroughly enjoyed the soft play, which was monitored by staff. We have booked to go again next year, but we have opted to go for a gold apartment in the hope we might get a better deal for our money. The secret at Skegness is not to expect too much from the site itself, but to enjoy the benefits of the surrounding areas as well. And you will notice the cheapness of the area if you eat in the right places - local caravan sites offer food a lot cheaper.
