Telephone banking staff are usually helpful, unless it's regarding bank charges.
Ridiculous charges for going a couple of pounds overdrawn.
Do not get a Halifax Current Account if you are not prepared to accept that you will be charged to death unless you are on top of your bank account balance at all times! Even going a couple of pounds overdrawn at any time during a day (even at weekends when banks are closed) will lumber you with a £30 charge and a £28 "unauthorised overdraft" charge. The only time the Halifax were ever "giving me more" was when I complained about the £300 charges they had slapped on my account that month, as I was unable to sort out my account personally as I was ill in hospital. When I phoned the Halifax to ask them if they would reverse the charges as goodwill, I had to get medical evidence to support my claim, and even then I felt like a criminal asking for my money back! How can a computer generated letter cost them £30 in "administration fees"? If I got £30 for every time I printed out a letter and stuffed it into an envelope...well, I'll let you work out the maths, because it's clear the Halifax can't. Needless to say, after three years of charging misery, I have taken my custom and my money elsewhere!
