General Comments

Travelling from Devon, I was expecting a great time from yet another Tussauds park. I had visited Alton Towers a few months earlier, and I was happy with my days there. The Chessington World of Adventures park was well signposted on junctions 9 & 10 of the M25. Car parking was free, saving a sum of £4 already from Alton Towers. We noticed that a new 150 roomed hotel is to be built for summer 2007. I had already bought a 'Tussauds Annual Pass', which I had used at Alton Towers. I would advise buying one if you plan to be visiting their parks in the future. The pass lasts for a year, or 50 visits to any of the parks and attractions, and now the London Eye is included! However, the admission prices for adults and children over 12 were £29.00. I was needing the toilet after travelling for 3 hours, but the toilets were inside, meaning I had a painful wait for the gates to open at 9:30. But, we soon found out their newest ride, Dragon's Fury was closed. After relieving my self, we headed for the section named Transylvania. All the sections are signposted, so finding your way is no problem. However, when we got there a member of staff was waiting behind a set of black gates. This was bizarre, as we had to wait 20 minutes before outside the park! The wait was another hour, but the time soon went by. We headed straight to their rollercoaster, Vampire, as this would be the busiest ride for the day. Well planned - we walked straight through the queue lines! I enjoyed Vampire, certainly give it a go. We then went straight to the new ride, but only re-themed, Bubbleworks. It was now sponsored by Imperial Leather, just like the flume at Alton Towers. This was amusing, as the ride had changed a lot since my last visit as a kid. This is yet another ride which has heavy queues. We decided it was time for lunch.

We headed for the McDonalds in the sector. The service was slow, and there were only 2 members of staff at the tills (there were 12 tills), and although it was early, I would expect better service. The food was the normal menu and price, and ultimately we enjoyed the meal. We decided to head for Rattlesnake, another rollercoaster - which was fun with it going in and out, up and down and just general fun! Next were Mexicana and the Mystic East sections of the park. The first ride up was Tomb Blaster - this had a 40 minute queue, so we decided to leave this until later. But the next ride, Rameses Revenge had only a 5 minute queue so we decided to ride, and it was well worth it. We got spun and soaked at the same time! This is one ride to take waterproofs on, but there are 'dry seats' if you just want the fun! We then moved to the water ride, Dragon Falls, which had a 50 minute wait, and the ride was well worth it - combining small drops and a large one at the end. A ride photograph was on offer, but as per usual - far too expensive (£5.00). We then headed for the Runaway Train, another long queue; this one wasn't worth the wait.

We were all surprised that the time was only 2:00pm, and we had to fill 4 hours before the end of the day. So we split up. The parents went to the zoo for the feeding of the Penguins, and we just went on all the rides over again! Because it had just rained, Vampire was a completely different experience, and it was much faster and smoother, and I even persuaded myself to buy a photograph! Then to Rattlesnake, Rameses Revenge etc. The time was now 5:00pm, so we finally rode on Tomb Blaster; this was a fun laser ride. The day was capped off with a final ride on Rameses Revenge, before we headed for the exits.

Overall, the parking was free, which is a good thing. The queuing was not overly bad, and a fun day was had by all. But I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, purely because the park was not suited to my age. Now, we had a day in central London and Thorpe Park the day after that (see the review).

My family and I visited Chessington World of Adventures on the 14th October 2006, and arrived at the park dead on 10am. We had planned to go on Dragon's Fury at first, as we knew that it was one of the most popular rides of the park, and the queues would soon be building up. However, when we found the ride, we were surprised to see that it was to be closed for the day to run tests. I can understand the needing to test the rides for safety issues, but surely, a whole day is too much. Although we were all disappointed, we went off to enjoy the rest of the day. I would like to take this opportunity to say what a great ride Tomb Blaster is. It is just a huge shame that something is always wrong with it. Today, however, there were many things wrong. The laser gun did not work. The lights did not turn red when you shot them; therefore, you did not retrieve your points. The music was not working in some rooms. The pictures at the end of the ride were not ours. Our points changed when they wanted. The revolving tunnel was not working. The pictures were never developed in one case. And the cars actually were stuck in one of the rooms for a long time. Surely, this should all be tested before the park opens. I would also like to say that I think that Chessington closes at a ridiculous time. In the winter, people like to stay late into the night to see the lights on the rides. At Chessington, the rides close at 5pm. As you can probably work out, it is never dark at this time. Thorpe Park on the other hand, closes after 9pm. Why the difference in time if they are both run by the same company? I would like to think that Chessington World of Adventures tries to attract the customers, but for me, at the moment, they are not doing such a great job.

I disagree. Chessington World of Adventures is a great park to go to for all ages. True, it doesn't offer loop the loop roller coasters, but it is still a good park for all ages!
