Varied rides to suit varied ages.
Good choice of places to eat.
Pleasant location.
Accessible from main motorways.
Waiting times unacceptable.
Public conveniences were not the cleanest.
Food outlet staff need to wear gloves when preparing food.
Designated smoking areas should be made, and appropriate disposal points made.
The fairground feel and food outlets heavily outweighed the rides that should be insitu for something called a 'Theme Park'.
Alton? Thorpe? Drayton? Or Chessington? This was the family's decision right up until the morning we left! Chessington was the choice, but with hindsight, it was the wrong choice.
For two adults and two teenage children, the park did not offer up enough thrills, pure and simple. One of the few 'thrill rides' was shut, which left maybe three rides that could be described as exciting!
The queues were too long, and aside from maybe the moderately exciting 'Vampyre' ride, the wait was not worth the outcome.
I was pretty disgusted that the food outlets we visited were served by persons who took till money then proceeded to handle prepared food. Health and safety needs to be looked at here!
The female toilets were badly maintained, and hygiene again seemed questionable.
Smoking is tolerated at the park, but I do wish designated smoking zones were made as in Florida etc, so that the awful sight of discarded cigarette ends could be prevented. Bins sometimes overflowed with litter, spewing over onto the ground. For somewhere quite pretty, the refuse needs further address.
Overall, the park felt like a travelling fair, with too many sideshow attractions and not enough state of the art rides. Quite a substantial area for a park, but too much space taken up with food outlets and grab a goldfish type attractions.
We have plans for Alton towers next year. More expensive perhaps, but you get what you pay for.
