The hotel location is good, in a quiet street nearby Leidseplein and Vondel Park.
First we were offered a very small double bedroom. You could hardly turn around in it and there was no space for placing the luggage. We did not accept it and got a two-bed room on the backside of the hotel. This room was OK and the bathroom was quite nice.
But we were very disappointed about the service in the hotel, we found the personnel to be unmotivated.
Our room and bathroom were not cleaned once in the three days we stayed there. Only the towels were changed. We complained on the second day, but the employee just started asking stupid questions, if we were in the room during the day (how many people would stay in the hotel room when visiting Amsterdam? Ridiculous) and if we had placed the do not disturb label. Both was not the case. The room was not cleaned after that either.
When checking out we complained again and asked for a compensation for the bad service and the employee at the front desk called the hotel owner. The owner did not give any discount for the bad service and just treated us as complaining about guests that spoil the rooms and so on. Wasted time!
Breakfast was basic continental and served until 10:00. But there were not enough eggs or they were boiled hours ago and cold, when we came there a quarter to ten. The employees refused to boil new ones. I expect full service even if I come late, but the employees did not seem to be interested at all in giving us good service.
AVOID!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO STAY IN THIS HOTEL
A friend of mine and I stayed for three nights in the Hotel Alexander in June 2006. We booked it on the internet and relied on the good ratings we found.
