General Comments
I've had this printer about 4 weeks and I am amazed at the photo print quality using Canon Photo Papers. Hard to tell apart from the shop prints I've had done in the past.
Text/graphics aren't too bad either and the driver is pretty good and quite easy to use with lots of options to play with.
Seperate ink tanks make this quite economical to use.
£99 from PC World (end of line sale I presume) makes this the best value for money printer I have ever seen (some places are still selling this printer for £180+).

To be fair, Canon never intended the S820 for use as an ordinary text-printing machine; the company doesn't even provide a performance specification for text.
