Good Points

It took me an age to decide which set to go for, the Philips 9527 or the Sony FX66, I'm glad i went for the latter. I've had this TV for just over week now, and I'm very pleased. I know the Philps has the pixcel plus system but the picture quality with the Sony is as just as good, and its about £200 cheaper. Also running it with a DAV S550, very nice

    Hi Tony,

I'm thinking of getting this TV too after months of deliberation!!
where did you get it and how much did you pay?
Is there noticeable buzzing, like with some of the fx66s

  • Tony. on 7th May 2003

I paid about £775 from Empire Direct, at least £300 cheaper than the highstreet shops. I've encountered no buzzing with the FX68.

  • spencer. on 25th May 2003

just bought the fx3268 last week. very stylish tv with spot on sound. the picture is great on dvd but can prove a little hazy when watching sky digital.

  • yargevets. on 28th May 2003

I just ordered one of these from Unbeatable.com and am waiting for delivery.
We did a load of shopping round - Currys / Powerhouse / Comet then founf this model on Internet.
Decided based on review of last year's FX66, but couldnt find a review of the FX68 until now. Didn't realise model was so new.
I'll add more when it arrives

  • topsyturvy. on 30th May 2003

Anyone know the difference between the fx68 and the fx66? Its funny how the 28" fx66 is priced higher then the 28" fx68 in some online stores???

  • Z. on 30th May 2003

FX66 apparently is 100hz Digital Plus processing, while FX68 is standard 100hz. As I understand it.

  • Denzil. on 3rd Jun 2003

I have just ordered the KV32FX68 from digital-point.co.uk for only £699.99 (without stand) including free next day delivery. I took a gamble with this as I couldn't find a review of it anywhere, so am pleased some of you found it a good set. Does the set have Smartlink like most of the other Sony TV's, I couldn't find any mention of it in the specifications?

  • Mickky. on 9th Jun 2003

I'm interested in a KV32FX68 and have spotted the best price on digital-point.co.uk. How did they perform for you Denzil??
Also, for anyone who has a FX68, I want to run the audio through my amp, and only my amp with no sound from the internal TV speakers. I've read reviews on earlier models such as the LS60 etc, whereby you have to disable the speakers from the menu every time you turn on. Has Sony sorted this annoyance??

  • Mogsey. on 10th Jun 2003

I'm considering purchasing this TV as well. Can anyone confirm that there is no buzzing from the back of the set?

  • Denzil. on 10th Jun 2003

Digital-point.co.uk were excellent. I ordered the TV just after 8am on the Tuesday and they delivered it at 1pm on Wednesday. They made me check the set was delivered in good condition before they were happy to leave.

The TV is fantastic, it's a bit bigger to what I am used to (I only had a 24" 4:3 before) so the lounge looks a bit smaller than it used to. The only downside with it is that it weighs an absolute ton, you will need two people to shift it. I only just managed to slide it out of the box on my own. The remote control is a bit dull but functional and operates a Sony DVD and VCR as well. I've got a Sony RMT2100 touch screen remote so I'm not really bothered.

I can also confirm that there is no buzzing from anywhere on the set, that I have noticed. I also found out once I looked through the instructions that the TV does support Smartlink which is mentioned in the specifications, so there's a bonus for you!

The first film I watched on the set was Monsters Inc on DVD which looked fantastic, the sound was pretty good as I didn't bother to use My DTS/DD 5.1 surround system to test out the speakers. I f you want to set up your contrast etc the Monsters Inc DVD has a THX optimizer in the set up menu to help you get the picture really good (Signs also has an optimizer in the set up menu as well).

Has anyone with this set noticed any colour impurities (in the corners or edges) or vertical bright lines (best seen with the colour setting at minimum). I have just got a Panasonic 32PS12 and have had two models with these problems. I'm thinking of swapping to this Sony and don't want to go from the frying pan and into the fire

I am interested in purchasing a KV32FX68. However I cannot ascertain from some internet sites whether or not a stand is included in the price quoted. Can anyone interpret from the designation KV32FX68TNS if this implies the inclusion of a stand?

  • Denzil. on 17th Jul 2003

When I got mine from digital-point.co.uk I had the option of buying it with or without the stand. I would seriously recommend you try them, I searched for days on the internet to find anywhere cheaper. There were plenty who had the set, and those that did have the same price did not have free next day delivery.

  • Eamon. on 26th Jul 2003

I just bought this set from a Sony Centre (today!!). After much haulage (it does weigh a ton!) I got it set up with little or no problems. I did have a minor heart attack when I power it up and noticed a green patch in the top right corner of the screen. It seemed to clear after a while so hopefully it won't be back! Picture is great, especially on DVD & sound is great too. I paid €1369 incl. stand.

  • tareko Rank: Lance Corporal on 5th Aug 2003

i got mine delivered today the delivery was prompt they called me to give me an estimated time of delivery which was great.
HOWEVER after i started putting together the stand(half way through) i realised that it was the wrong stand. After a quick call to them, they apologised and will send out another stand for tmrw.
They were by far the cheapest sony 32FX68 for £739.99 including a stand.
Now i can watch tv all night long in class!

  • kevlarbodyarmour on 5th Aug 2003

I got the 36" one of these last weekend. There is definatly a buzzing comming from it. I tried to clean up the electricity supply with a surge protector but it still buzzes and it's driving me nuts. It's going back to the shop this weekend.

  • Chris878787 on 27th Aug 2003

I got my Sony 32" FX68 from http://www.dvdplayers.co.uk for £710. Excellent service, arrived in 2 days, they phoned to say it would arrive between 3 and 5pm and it did, plugged it in and it worked. Great picture. Why would anyone buy one from Comet for £999? Especially as their aerials are so bad that you can't see a decent picture. I asked what if the picture was no good at my house, and Comet said that unless the "Engineer" could find a fualt with the set then they wouldn't take it back! No wonder Powerhouse has gone bust. I expect Comet will be next. Chris

Hi, I just purchased a Sony KV32FX68S, the picture is ok (but I expected a better quality, especially when watching analog tv-programs), but I have a very anoying problem: there's a buzzing comming from the back of the set! :(
kevlarbodyarmour was talking about the same buzzing so I wanted to know if there were other peeps who have/had the same problem with the KV32FX68S? (don't forget to put the set on mute when checking that problem, also try to do it without any surrounding sound in the same room). I'v spent my last €'s on this set so I really would apreciate if you guys would give me feedback on this (if you guys don't have that problem I'll ship the set as fast as I can back and buy me another one, hopefully without the buzzing...). Thx!

  • kevlarbodyarmour on 20th Jan 2004

If the buzzing changes with the amount on white shown on the picture then you have a faulty tube, otherwise it's the power supply. I read online that the buzzing was a 'feature' of the power supply. It was not considered a 'fault' by Sony, at the time according to what I read.

I went to a (different) store and was told that the power supply is not a servicable part, so if it needed repair it means a new TV. Same goes for the tube obviously.

I demanded my money back from Empire Electrical in Bradford, within a week of purchasing the set, since I was not 100% sure that Sony would repair the set under it's warrenty, and besides which, the shop had supplied me with faulty goods.

The shop did offer to replace the set or exchange it. In the UK I have the right to a refund within so many days of purchase, if I put my demand in writing. I did a part exchange for a fridge and got most of my money back.

Other than the buzz, it was a great TV. It was just too dam heavy at 36 iches. I'll save up for a plasma or LCD. They are easier to carry. :-D

Whats the general opinion on the geometry of this set?
I have just recieved mine yesterday and although the picture looks great there is a small ammount of curving on the left hand side.
I have read lots on the net about widescreen TVs and the geometry issued associated with them but the reviews I read on this TV did seem to give the impression that the geometry was perfect....which it isnt.

  • DragonOptical Rank: Lance Corporal on 2nd Mar 2004

The geometry isn\'t perfect (finally I still got the FX68, but the buzzing is still there so I called the technical service and they said they\'ll change the F-Board, hopefully that will do it), and yes it\'s a problem that a lot of widescreen tv\'s have nowadays (especially 32\" screens and above), for more info on that problem and other tv-related problems go to www.avforums.com .

    Re Buzzing Sony Widescreen TV:
I also have a Sony KV-32FX68 wide screen, the warranty has run out but I have a repair protection plan. I have had a buzzing noise in the background and unfortunately only decided I'd had enough of it recently. The sony engineer reckons it is as it should be. He has ordered some coating substance to put over the offending item. But I don't hold out much hope. He is due to call. I will update on results.
Appreciate feedback form anyone else in forum who reached a resolution to the irritating background buzzing!

  • DragonOptical Rank: Lance Corporal on 9th Dec 2004

    Hi,

Concerning the buzzing: the shop where I bought my TV wouldn't give me a refund because they said it wasn't an anomaly (!!!)...
So I still have the Sony KV-32FX68S, maybe next year I'll try to sell it and buy myself a plasma-screen.
For the people who are having the same problem, here's a very good url where you'll find a lot of information concerning this buzzing-problem: http://www.avforums.com/frame.html?http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65955&perpage=15&highlight=Fboard&pagenumber=15 .
    Cheers!

Sony 32fx68: engineer called put some stuff on component, result: no improvement.
Reading other comments on this site and others ..I wonder if it is worth pursuing this any more...where do I go from here?
