General Comments

I bought a referbished Philips PET700/05 a couple of months ago for £80 and I have been very impressed by it so far. The picture quality can't be faulted, there are no glitches and the actual picture is very clear. The battery life is very good too, I can get about 3 hours out of it (provided you don't keep changing discs- if you change discs a few times it only lasts about 150 to 165 minutes). 3 hours may not sound like a lot, but it is longer than the 2 to 2 and a half hours you get with other players on the market. The same applies with the Pet700's picture quality, it's much better than other players' that are available.
The sound quality lets it down. There is no bass whatsoever, although the player's speakers do have a Dolby surround setting, along with the usual mono and stereo modes. But if you put a pair of headphones in (there are 2 headphone jacks) the sound is quite good. You could also buy some external speakers. I have some ministry of sound ones that only cost £20 and they make the sound quality 10 times better.
Another great feature about the Pet700 is that it comes with all the accessories that you could possibly need: a remote, a gadget bag that hangs up on a car seat, an in-car cigarette lighter adapter, AV cables (to connect it up to a TV), and of course the battery and charger/mains adapter. The only thing that doesn't come with it is a pair of headphones, but you can buy a decent pair fairly cheaply anyway.
The Pet700 plays all copied DVDs and CDs (including mp3 CDs), along with jpeg image CDs. It will also play DVDrws with music on them (my mate made his own personal music mix on a dvdrw for some reason).
You can password protect the player and you can also set it so that it will only play certain age rated discs- so you could set it to only play 12As, for example. Also you can get instructions of how to make the player region free at Amazon and a few other websites.
All things considered, I think that for £80 to £100 you can't buy a better New DVD player. You might be able to get one with a bigger screen for the same amount of money but it will lose out on other features.
Get a Pet700 now! You won't be disappointed.
