Good Points

Sleek appearance, power, highly visible sights and outstanding accuracy.

Bad Points

Somewhat hold sensitive and safety could be better located.

General Comments

I initially purchased a Diana P5 magnum about one year ago and ran into the problem of the pistol shooting low with max adjustments. I sent the pistol back to be repaired and once returned, I experienced the same problem. Also, I guess due to my gripping pistol improperly, accuracy was spotty. I could not achieve consistent performance. Eventually I sold the pistol. Recently I have read sparkling reviews of the pistol here and other places and decided to try once more. My second gun shot wonderfully! I managed to maintain consistent grip and the accuracy was outstanding. The power of the pistol was very impressive and I was very happy with my purchase. I was able to adjust the trigger and shot around 200 pellets through it the very first day. The next day when I tried to shoot again, the gun would not break open. I played around with the safety to no avail. I could not break the barrel to cock it. I sent pistol back to Airguns USA to try a 3rd one. I decided that if the new one received failed, I would give up. I have now had the replacement pistol a few days and I have to say I really love it. The gun is not yet broken in yet and the accuracy is unbelievable. Offhand groups are often 1/2" at 15 yards. I shot plastic one gallon containers filled with water from distances up to 30 yards with good accuracy and the pellet always penetrated. I am quite pleased with the gun so far....and very happy I did not let my initial experiences turn me away from this sweet shooting piece.

My p5 also shot low beyond the rear sight adjustment range. I shortened the front sight via saw, file, and good epoxy. Related to and yet beyond this is that this piece is sensitive to breach seal depth in the channel as are many barrel cockers. If the seal is too deep, pressure and velocity/energy will be lost. I currently have two wraps of 12 lb. diameter braided line (only fishermen understand the concept of measuring diameter in lb.!) behind the seal. Overdoing this will cause even lower shots and/or barrel wobbling on the seal. This gun thrives (reaches max energy output) with lighter pellets, my speciman actually reaching 600 fps with 6.5 grain lasers.

I had the same problem with the gun shooting low! I filed the front site down as well, and things seem to be good now. I hated to lose the orange/pink front site, so I replaced it with a small strip of an orange target dot. As far as the velocity I had higher fps. with Beeman's Silver Bears going 613 fps. avg. than I did with the Laser's. This is not the first gun that the heavier Silver Bears have out performed the Laser pellets. I think the Silver Bears fit the barrel better.

Thanks for the interesting info, Dual Mag! I should have been more detailed about sawing under the red optic and then epoxying it to what was left. I tried some older Silver Bears (7.00 grains vs my Lasers 6.52 grains) and did get some readings just over 600 fps. Tighter breech fit will often exact more energy from a springer. But even tighter than optimum - not good. So I got some lower readings like 530's as well as 600+. The lasers had a good range in the high 580's to 599, many within 4 fps of 597. I'm not a fan of either pellet in rifles, but they're good in this gun.

Yup. Same problem with shooting low. Talked with the gunsmith at RWS and was told the barrel was canted a bit low. Just sent it back for "adjustment." We shall see. For a gun to shoot outside sight adjustment is, in my opinion, rather inexcusable.
